The movie of Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour has sold more than $100 million in advance tickets globally, according to theatre operator AMC, making it the best-selling feature-length concert film in history.

The release of “Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour” is scheduled for October 13 in 8,500 theatres across 100 nations.

The movie is already on track to surpass “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which earned $99 million and was released in 2011, to become the most successful concert film ever.

The movie “This Is It,” which made $261 million worldwide, is not regarded as a concert movie because it solely shows Michael Jackson getting ready for a performance before he passed away.

Although the singer’s tour will include a second leg next year with dozens of performances in South America, Australia, Asia, Europe, as well as the United States and Canada, she ultimately decided to make “Eras” a worldwide event. Originally, “Eras” was just to be published in the United States.

A representative for AMC told AFP that the $100 million in revenue came from every theatre that will show the film, including the Cinepolis in Mexico and the Cineplex networks in Canada.

Four thousand of the 8,500 theatres are in North America.

The “Joker” movie from 2019 achieved the all-time North American gross record for an October opening weekend of $96 million.

According to Jeff Bock of the specialised company Exhibitor Relations, attendance for “Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour” in North America might reach 100 million over the course of three days, from October 13 to 15.

Images from three of the megastar’s concerts at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, a Los Angeles suburb, in early August are included in the 2H48 movie.

There are now 146 dates on the “Eras” tour.

Each concert generates $13 million in sales, according to Pollstar, the trade publication for the performing arts, bringing the tour’s overall earnings to over $1.9 billion.

An artist or group has never before reached the figurative billion-dollar mark.

AMC said on Monday that singer Beyonce would follow Swift’s lead and have a documentary on her recently-completed “Renaissance” tour released in theatres on December 1.

Following Wall Street’s closing bell, AMC shares increased by almost two percent in electronic trading.
