Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) have announced that Langkawi will soon to officially reopen on 16th September 2021 to fully vaccinated people in helping to boost back the economy in tourism sector. Thus, giving hopes to the tourism players in reviving their business soon.
The island has been chosen as the first travel bubble pilot destination due to it being one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaysia and its geographical location – an island thus it is separated from the mainland, making it easy to be supervised.
MOTAC minister, Datuk Seri Hajah Nancy Shukri stated that those who wish to travel there by land, need to use travel agency services at least from the mainland to the jetty on the island. Meanwhile those who travel from Perlis, Kedah or by air, they won’t need to use the service of travel agency. However, this applies only to fully vaccinated people who are not from the EMCO area and they need to request for approval first from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Local airline services also are preparing to serve their passengers soon. Malindo Air will be scheduling six flights daily from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi via Sultan Azlan Shah Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Initially, it only schedules two flights daily to the island.
Chief Executive Officer, Captain Mushafiz Mustafa Bakri said that said that the flights will start on 16th September in conjunction to Malaysia Day. He also gave good news to the Super Saver ticket holders as they will receive free 15kg baggage allowance for all Malindo Air flights.
Malaysia Airlines currently selling tickets as low as RM89 for all-in-fares in conjunction of the upcoming Malaysia Day. Meanwhile the nation’s all-cost airline, AirAsia plans to offer discounted air fares to Langkawi to support the reopening of the island through a travel bubble scheme starting 16th September 2021.
