Petronas Chemicals Group Names Mazuin Ismail as New CEO

Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem), a major entity under Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), has appointed Mazuin Ismail (picture) as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2024. Mazuin will take over from Mohd Yusri Mohamed Yusof, who assumed the MD and CEO position in January 2022.

Currently serving as the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Corporate Strategy at Petronas, Mazuin brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His work at Petronas has included charting the company’s strategic direction, ensuring financial performance, stability, and sustainability. He has spearheaded critical merger, acquisition, and divestment activities, including the acquisition of global renewable energy opportunities and specialty chemicals companies like Perstorp Holding AB and Da Vinci Group.

Mazuin has been instrumental in Petronas’ ventures into the energy transition sphere, overseeing the formation and growth of Gentari, Petronas’ dedicated clean energy arm. He has also played a pivotal role in advocating the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), a crucial initiative launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia in August.

With over 30 years of experience in various sectors, including project execution, engineering, internal audits, governance, and business development, Mazuin’s previous roles at Petronas include serving as the SVP of Project Delivery and Technology, along with the position of Vice President of Technical Global.

PetChem’s shares concluded Friday’s noon session up by eight sen or 1.12%, reaching RM7.23, thus valuing the group at RM57.84 billion.
