Road to be renamed after Tun Rahah

The government is considering renaming Jalan Eaton to Jalan Tun Hajah Rahah to commemorate the services and contributions of Tun Rahah Mohamed Noah.

According to New Straits Times, Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said he had informed his ministry’s secretary-general on the matter for further action as the renaming process has to go through several stages, namely a local committee perusal before being submitted for approval of the new name at the ministry level.

He had since submitted the proposal for consideration and was waiting for a thorough report.

“The report will provide an explanation of whether the old name has any relation to heritage or history.

“Also, the proposed new name also needs to have certain merits where in this case Jalan Eaton does not have major historical relations and we also know this road intersects Jalan Tun Razak,” he said.

Tun Rahah passed away on Friday and was laid to rest at the Heroes’ Mausoleum, at the National Mosque on Saturday. She was also the wife of Malaysia’s second prime minister, the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein.
