Malaysia Files Criminal Charges Against Goldman Sachs

Malaysian authorities filed criminal charges against Goldman Sachs on Monday, alleging the Wall Street bank was involved in a conspiracy to launder $2.7 billion from an investment fund. The charges escalate the legal troubles facing Goldman Sachs. U.S. authorities have already filed criminal charges against former Goldman Sachs employees, but this is the first time the New York bank has been directly blamed for wrongdoing. “Having held themselves out as the pre-eminent global adviser ... the highest standards are expected of Goldman Sachs. They have fallen far short of any standard,” Malaysian Attorney General Tommy Thomas said in a statement. Goldman Sachs has said it is cooperating with the investigations and denied wrongdoing. “We believe these charges are misdirected and we wi...

5 Reasons You Should Encourage Your Employees To Take Vacations

When your team is neck deep in work, the last thing on your mind as a small business owner is to encourage everyone to use up their vacation time. Every day looms as another day that you’ll have to find someone else to substitute for them or take on extra work. But that’s a short-term mindset. Project: Time Off, a national movement to transform American attitudes and behavior about vacation, found that in 2016, Americans took 16.2 days of the 21.9 days of vacation they were offered, on average. Project: Time Off calls this “America’s Lost Week.”   Take a stand against this trend of all work and little play. Here are five reasons to encourage your employees to take a vacation:  ...

Why Countless US Commuters Are Ditching Bikes and Buses For Scooters

What at first might seem like a toy could well be the affordable and environmentally friendly transport innovation desperately needed by many cities around the world. “I mostly use a scooter for short distances, to get to from the subway to the office,” says Robert Price from Washington. He's one of many in US cities that are giving up cars, bikes and public transport for rentable battery-powered scooters. Scattered all over city centres, they can be rented out from operators like Lime and Bird for less than the price of a train ticket for 10 minutes use. Anyone who wants to start a quick ride just uses an app on their smartphone to unlock one. Once you've unlocked the scooter with your smartphone, two or three pushes with your foot and you're on your way. Then, all you need to ke...

Theresa May Wins Leadership Ballot

Theresa May has survived an attempt to oust her from the British prime ministership, winning a secret ballot of her MPs 200 to 117. However, her critics immediately demanded she stand down, declaring her victory too narrow to maintain her authority. "A significant number of colleagues did cast a vote against me and I've listened to what they said," said British Prime Minister Theresa May after winning a secret ballot 200 to 117. The result, anounced by Sir Graham Brady, the chair of the 1922 backbench committee at 9pm local time, is one vote higher than the votes May received in the second round of the leadership contest she eventually won unchallenged in 2016, But it means that more than a third of her partyroom opposes her leadership. Crucially, the number of MPs who voted...
