Tan Sri Shukry Salleh has been sacked as Bank Rakyat chairman over his alleged role in altering the federal audit report on 1MDB, said Entrepreneur Development Minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof. The minister said the immediate termination order was made using powers vested in him by the Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad (Special Provisions) Act.

“Following this, decisions made during his service in Bank Rakyat which has an implication on Bank Rakyat, will be reviewed and cancelled if it affects the interest of the bank,” he said in a statement.

The statement said the minister would announce his replacement once it has been finalised. Shukry was the principal private secretary to the former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak prior to the appointment to Bank Rakyat on Jan 3, 2017.

Among the posts Shukry held previously were head of the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department, general manager of the South Kelantan Development Authority, director of the Kelantan Development Office, director of the Perak Registration Department, secretary of the Sabah State Security Committee, and Assistant Secretary of the Defence Ministry.

Shukry was among eight people implicated by Auditor-General Tan Sri Madinah Mohamad in the alleged interference with the 1MDB audit report prepared by her predecessor. Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has summoned all eight for its inquiry into the matter.
