Pop icon Taylor Swift has officially broken Elvis Presley’s long-held record for the most weeks at Number 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart by a solo artist.
Swift’s latest re-released album, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), topped the chart for a fifth time in the final tracking week of 2023. This gave Swift a new record total of 68 weeks at Number 1, surpassing Presley’s previous soloist record of 67 weeks.
The achievement caps an incredible multi-year run for Swift, whose chart-topping albums include Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Midnights, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and now 1989 (Taylor’s Version).
Buoyed by a last-minute sales boost around Christmas, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) racked up over 98,000 equivalent album units for the tracking week ending December 28. Swift’s Eras Tour will pick back up in February, giving fans plenty to look forward to in 2024.
